Major Arcana
The Hierophant
The tradition
Upright meaning
Learn from the established system, find a teacher, follow the proven route. This is not the moment to break form.
Reversed meaning
Pushing against the framework, or being trapped by dogma. It can also mean finding your own path.
What is in the picture
He wears a triple crown, one hand raised in blessing, the other holding a triple-barred staff. Two crossed keys lie at his feet — what he holds and can hand over. Two tonsured monks kneel before him, their robes patterned differently: students need not become identical. The pillars are grey rather than black and white; here everything already has a standard.
Love
A formal commitment: engagement, marriage, meeting the family.
Career
Training, credentials, or a large organisation with clear process.
One thing you can do
Find someone who has walked exactly the road you are considering and ask for thirty minutes. That one conversation routinely saves months of guessing.
Is The Hierophant a yes or a no?
Yes, if you follow a path someone has already walked. This card does not favour inventing your own rules right now.
