the devil

Major Arcana

The Devil

The chain

bondagetemptationdependencyshadow

Upright meaning

You are tied to something — a habit, a person, a belief — and the chain is looser than you think.

Reversed meaning

Loosening the bonds and taking back your autonomy. Or refusing to admit the problem exists.

What is in the picture

A horned figure sits on a black plinth, an inverted pentagram on its forehead, one hand raised, the other holding a torch pointed down. Two naked figures are chained to the plinth. Look closely: the chains are loose enough to lift over their heads. They have grown horns and tails — they have been here long enough to start resembling their keeper.

Love

A relationship running more on obsession or dependency than on love.

Career

Well-paid work that is holding you captive. Look at that honestly.

One thing you can do

For three days, log every time you do the thing you know is bad for you: the hour, and what you felt just before. It is the just-before that actually needs handling.

Is The Devil a yes or a no?

Leans NO

No, at least not this way. There is an attachment here you are choosing not to look at directly.
