Major Arcana
The Fool
The leap
Upright meaning
A genuinely new start, taken before you can see where it leads. This card asks you to trust instinct and jump even though the information is incomplete.
Reversed meaning
Recklessness without thought, or the opposite — so much fear that you never begin. It can also mean innocence being taken advantage of.
What is in the picture
A young man stands at the very edge of a cliff, looking up rather than down. A white rose in his left hand, a tiny bundle on a stick over his shoulder — everything he owns. The small white dog at his heels could be celebrating or warning him. He is numbered 0: nothing yet, and therefore able to become anything.
Love
Something new and light that has not taken shape yet. Enjoy it without loading expectations onto it.
Career
A new opening or a change of direction. High risk, but this is the moment to try.
One thing you can do
Write down the worst thing that could realistically happen if you begin. If you would survive it, what is holding you back is not the risk — it is being seen while you are still clumsy.
Is The Fool a yes or a no?
Yes, but the yes of a door opening rather than of an outcome secured. This card blesses the beginning and promises nothing about the destination.
Beside another card
A card changes meaning according to what sits next to it. These are the two most common pairings — tap through to read the other card.
