Major Arcana
The Empress
The abundance
Upright meaning
A fertile stretch: an idea, a project or a relationship is growing. The card of plenty and of care.
Reversed meaning
Care taken to the point of smothering, or neglect of yourself. Creativity blocked.
What is in the picture
She reclines on cushions in a field of ripe wheat, not in a palace. A crown of twelve stars; a heart-shaped shield carved with the sign of Venus. A stream runs through the forest behind her. Everything in the picture is either growing or ready to be cut — this is the card of what is alive, not of what is being built.
Love
A warm relationship, tied to home and family. It can signal children.
Career
A project is flowering. Suits creative work or work that looks after people.
One thing you can do
Pick one thing you are looking after and ask whether it needs more from you or needs to be left alone. Plants die of overwatering about as often as of drought.
Is The Empress a yes or a no?
Yes. This card leans towards growth, abundance and things that need time to ripen — so yes, but do not rush it.

A card changes meaning according to what sits next to it. These are the two most common pairings — tap through to read the other card.
