Major Arcana
Death
The ending
Upright meaning
A chapter closes decisively so a new one can open. This is almost never literal — it is transformation.
Reversed meaning
Clinging to something already finished. Change resisted, so the pain drags on longer.
What is in the picture
A skeleton in black armour rides a white horse, carrying a black banner with a white five-petalled rose. Under the hooves: a king already fallen, a bishop pleading, a young woman turning away, a child looking straight at it. Nobody is exempt. On the horizon the sun is rising between two towers. This card almost never means a literal death.
Love
The relationship is changing its nature, or needs to end so both of you are free.
Career
Leaving the old job. This ending is necessary.
One thing you can do
Name one thing in your life that is over but that you are still holding. Give it a specific end date inside this month.
Is Death a yes or a no?
No, not in its current form — because it needs to end, not because you failed. What follows this card is almost always another shape of the same thing.
Beside another card
A card changes meaning according to what sits next to it. These are the two most common pairings — tap through to read the other card.
