Minor Arcana · Pentacles
Eight of Pentacles
The bench
Upright meaning
Doing it over and over until it is mastered. Unglamorous, and it decides how good you become later.
Reversed meaning
Sloppy work, boredom with the trade, or perfectionism that finishes nothing.
What is in the picture
A craftsman sits at a bench with hammer and chisel, carving the eighth pentacle. Five finished ones hang on a post, one lies at his feet. The town is far away behind him and he is not looking at it. He is repeating the same motion often enough that it turns into skill.
Love
This needs steady effort, not just inspiration.
Career
Deepening your craft. This diligence gets paid back.
About this suit
Pentacles are material: work, money, health and everything countable. Slow, but solid.
One thing you can do
Give forty-five minutes a day for two weeks to exactly one skill. This card does not reward intensity; it rewards the number of repetitions.
Is Eight of Pentacles a yes or a no?
Yes, if you will put in the hours steadily. This card is almost always right when the question is about learning a craft.
Beside another card
A card changes meaning according to what sits next to it. These are the two most common pairings — tap through to read the other card.
